Dallas is the third largest city in Texas and the ninth largest in the United States. The city is the main economic center of the 12-county metropolitan area and has a population of over 6 million.
The Dallas Metroplex has one of the largest concentrations of corporate headquarters in the United States. Dallas is home to nine Fortune 500 companies, including AT&T, Comerica Bank, ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Fluor, Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Neiman Marcus, 7-Eleven, Brinker International, AMS Pictures, ENSCO Offshore Drilling, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Chuck E. Cheese's, Zales and Fossil. Corporate headquarters in the northern suburb of Plano include Electronic Data Systems, Frito Lay, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and JCPenney.
The metropolitan area is home to over 10,000 corporate headquarters making the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex the largest corporate headquarters concentration in the United States. Greater Dallas is also home to 38 colleges and many hospitals and medical research facilities, including Baylor University Medical Center, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Medical City Dallas Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital.
